Two documentaries by David Millstone about New England Contra Dancing

David Millstone has been calling dances in Vermont and New Hampshire for many years. Moved by the musicians and dancers he has met over the years, he took a year sabbatical (from his day job) to create Paid To Eat Ice Cream, a documentary about contra dance musician Bob McQuillen. The video was success, so David undertook a second project, a documentary of the Norwich, Vermont dance community called What's Not to Like?.

Both of these wonderful documentaries are now available on a single DVD, Contra Connections. Descriptions of the indvidual films are below.

NOTE: At this time, these documentaries are only available on DVD, the VHS tapes are no longer available.

Paid to Eat Ice Cream
Bob McQuillen and New England Contra Dancing
Paid To eat Ice Cream, an informative, visually beautiful, and deeply moving tribute to the musical career of Bob McQuillen, documents the living tradition of contra dance in New Hampshire. Backed by an exquisite soundtrack, the film includes archival photographs and footage of contra dance in New Hampshire over the years and showcases the talents of the region's dance callers and musicians.
